IVLP for Belize with FHI 360. This single country project for media professionals and up-and-coming leaders in the field of journalism will examine the rights and responsibilities of a free press in a democracy. November 9.

A core element of U.S. foreign policy is to encourage a free and responsible press. The press is a cornerstone of democracy, and through responsible reporting it fosters a well-informed citizenry that can hold governments and institutions accountable. This in-person single country project for media professionals and up-and-coming leaders in the field of journalism from Belize will examine the rights and responsibilities of a free press in a democracy. Participants will explore the operational practices, standards, and institutions of the media in the U.S. and gain insight into American social, economic, and political structures. The program will include an academic component and a workshop highlighting current trends and challenges in the media profession, including investigative journalism, fact-checking, and disinformation. Strategic communications experts will discuss integrated public awareness campaigns that aid governments during natural disasters and public health crisis.
