Regional Responses to Refugee and Migration Issues

IVLP Regional Project for Europe (Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, European Union, Germany (2), Greece, Netherlands, Portugal, Turkey (2)) with Cultural Vistas. – Orchestra Rouh September 9, Bethany Christian Services September 13 and Home Hospitality September 17.

In support of U.S. efforts to address humanitarian crises, prevent trafficking in persons, and promote citizen security, this virtual project will focus on global refugee and migration challenges.  The project will explore how the United States ensures national security while providing a haven for refugee communities and how it cooperates internationally in addressing refugee crises around the world.  Participants will examine how the United States has responded to unexpected waves of refugees and immigrants fleeing conflict situations.  They will explore state and local government efforts to assist new arrivals in key sectors such as housing, education, training, employment, health services, transportation, law enforcement, and conflict resolution.  Participants will meet with government and private sector agencies that assist immigrants, discuss best practices in integration, and meet former refugees to hear their experiences of settling and succeeding in the United States.
