Register Now! Article about the Summit & meet more speakers

We believe #ExchangeIsForEverybody, and we've ensured that there's something for everyone at Kalamazoo's first Diplomacy Begins Here Summit.

In today’s blog, we share an article about the summit and introduce more speakers. Read this take on the Summit by local journalist Mark Wedel in Southwest Michigan's Second Wave, including some great insights from attendee Janine Branch, from FHI360, who will be coming to Kalamazoo for the very first time. It might give you more food for thought on why to attend.

Wondering what kind of participation makes sense for you? Click the button below that corresponds with your interests.

1. Maybe you've hosted international guests before and would like to learn a little more about the impact of the meetings they have with local people? Or perhaps your business or organization has hosted an international fellow or is considering doing so in the future. Register to attend the full-day Summit on July 11 where we'll dive into many of the challenges and solutions here in Kalamazoo that resonate globally.

2. You'd like to learn a little more about citizen diplomacy and international exchange and check out the Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass exhibition at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. We recommend registering for the Welcome Reception, being hosted at the KIA from 6 -8 pm Wednesday, June 10, the night prior to the Summit.

3. Are you a high school student interested in learning how U.S. foreign policy and diplomatic negotiations work? Are you thinking about pursuing an international career after graduation? The Summit Student Track offers an interactive simulation that will take students through role-playing scenarios as they take on the role of key stakeholders to a hypothetical crisis and the factors that led to it. Students will also have the opportunity to meet and speak with recruiters, directors, and representatives from the U.S. Department of State. *Note: We have a special discount code that will waive your $50 registration fee. Email info@globaltieskzoo.org for that.

We're so grateful to all the incredible individuals who'll be sharing their insights and experience with our community at Kalamazoo's Diplomacy Begins Here Summit, hosted in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and Global Ties U.S. The Summit is for everybody (that's you, Kalamazoo) and will take place on Thursday, July 11 at The Epic Center in downtown Kalamazoo.

Last week, we highlighted our opening plenary panel (if you missed it, you can read it here). Today, we introduce you to more local speakers. This Summit is both global and hyper-local. Pictured above are more Kalamazoo area change-makers who'll be presenting at the Summit. Speakers are being added on the registration site every day.

Join us for Kalamazoo's Diplomacy Begins Here Summit Opening Night Reception, co-sponsored by The Local Journalism Foundation. The event will be held 6 - 8 pm, Wednesday, July 10, at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.

We're so excited to explore the galleries and convene with Kalamazooans and out of towners alike as we gear up for the Summit, which takes place the following day. We will enjoy private access to all of the galleries, including the temporary exhibit Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass, brought to Kalamazoo by Global Ties Network partner International Arts & Artists and originated by the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The museum celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, and we're so excited to enjoy this incredible local resource together.

From all of us at Global Ties Kalamazoo ... we look forward to seeing you at the Summit! Don't forget that Summit registration closes at noon on Monday, July 8.
