Diplomacy Begins Here Summit Is Two Weeks Out
We're honored to introduce several of the incredible individuals who'll be sharing their insights with our community at Kalamazoo's Diplomacy Begins Here Summit, hosted in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and Global Ties U.S. The Summit is for everybody (that's you, Kalamazoo) and will take place on Thursday, July 11 at The Epic Center in downtown Kalamazoo.
The event's opening plenary will be moderated by Global Ties Kalamazoo Board Member Sarah Mansberger, Executive Director of Workforce and Community Initiatives at Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA), and will feature speakers Zac Bauer, Executive Director, Local Initiatives Support Corporation {LISC}; Michael Horrigan, President, W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research; Clarence Lloyd, Vice President & Chamber Director, Southwest Michigan First; Elizabeth Washington, Executive Director, Northside Association for Community Development {NACD}; and Scott Weinhold, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State.
We hope you'll join us and these inspiring leaders as we dive into the theme of the Summit - Global Challenges: Building Locally Driven Solutions in Kalamazoo - and celebrate the critical role that exchanges like the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) play in building trust to advance peace and prosperity. Learn more about our speakers and register for the Summit at gties.us/DBH_KZOO.
Join us for Kalamazoo's Diplomacy Begins Here Summit Opening Night Reception, co-sponsored by The Local Journalism Foundation. The event will be held 6 - 8 pm, Wednesday, July 10, at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.
We're so excited to explore the galleries and convene with Kalamazooans and out of towners alike as we gear up for the Summit, which takes place the following day. We will enjoy private access to all of the galleries, including the temporary exhibit Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass, brought to Kalamazoo by Global Ties Network partner International Arts & Artists and originated by the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The museum celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, and we're so excited to enjoy this incredible local resource together.
Stay tuned for more event highlights next week, and don't forget, if you're coming in from out of town, the hotel block rate is available through July 1.
From all of us at Global Ties Kalamazoo ... we look forward to seeing you at the Summit!
