Diplomacy Begins Here Summit

Global Challenges: Building Locally Driven Solutions in Kalamazoo

We couldn’t be more excited to announce that Global Ties Kalamazoo was selected to host the first of 2024’s two Diplomacy Begins Here Regional Summits in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and Global Ties U.S. The Kalamazoo Summit – Global Challenges: Building Locally Driven Solutions -– will be held July 11 and 12, and in the fall, our peer organization, Global New Orleans, will host the second Summit — Crescent City Connections: Creativity Through Exchange (Sept. 23-24).

Each Diplomacy Begins Here Summit brings together leaders from the business, government, and nonprofit sectors to raise awareness of the value of international exchange programs and their benefit to communities and people across the United States. This will be the first time in eight years that a regional summit is coming to Michigan, and the first time that Global Ties Kalamazoo and Global New Orleans will each host this signature event.

“Ever since I first went to a Diplomacy Begins Here Summit, I've made it to every single one that has fit our budget and schedule because they've been such amazing, rich experiences,” said Global Ties Kalamazoo Executive Director Jodi Michaels. “I've loved getting to know different cities across the country through the prism of international exchange, and networking with peers in our field. We're so excited to now be hosting a regional Summit in Kalamazoo.”

Registration opens in early June!
